Biography[]
Eric Redd (previously known professionally as Erique Redd) is an American singer and performer. He performed in Starlight Express on tour in Japan and Australia, and in London.
In 2019 Redd was a guest on the Starlight Express Alumni Podcast[1]. During his interview, he claimed that he was offered the part of Electra by then-director Dion McHugh, but that the offer was vetoed by the tour’s producers as Redd had broken his contract on the Hamburg production of Cats, leaving the show early when he decided he did not like the material and wanted to sing.
Redd claims he was then offered the ensemble role of Purse, which he rejected, but was called by McHugh, who offered him a place in any production of Starlight if would understudy Electra and Rusty on tour. Redd says he accepted, choosing London as his destination after the tour. Despite having a bittersweet experience in London and leaving after year, Redd lived in London for 8 years, during which time he refocused his career on singing.
