I Do

I Do was added in 2012 to fill the eleventh hour of Starlight Express. It is sung by Pearl and Rusty as their love song of realisation and forgiveness. It replaces "Only He", "Only You", "Next Time You Fall In Love" and the modern version of "Only He" as the love song.

Context[]

Left alone, injured after the final race, Pearl reflects on her feelings towards Rusty. She feels he may not notice her, but she loves him, she regrets not getting the chance to tell him how she feels.

I Do is the first song in Starlight Express to be written by Andrew Lloyd Webber's son, Alistair Lloyd Webber and Nick Coler . Rusty's part is particularly demanding in range. It first appeared in the 2012 UK Tour. The song was translated into German for the ongoing German-language Bochum production in 2013.
