Maynard Williams started his career at the age of seventeen as keyboard player with the rock band Elmer Cantry's Velvet Opera who had a Top Ten hit with the single ''Flames''. In 1973 he joined his first West End musical, ''Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'', at the Albery Theatre. He recorded the ''"Joseph"'' album, for which he received a Gold Disc and was subsequently asked by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to record a solo album for MCA entitled ''Ten Songs''. Maynard then went to the newly opened Haymarket Theatre in Leicester, where he stayed for several repertory seasons, working on a wide range of plays and musicals. Since then he has worked in almost every medium of show business, recently breaking into the voice-over and session singing field.

Other credits include Feste in ''Twelfth Night'', Silvius in ''As You Like It'' for the BBC, Worsley in ''Owners'', Judas in ''Godspell'', two series of ''One More Time'' for the BBC and The Sun in ''Masquerade'' at the Young Vic where he first worked with Arlene Philips.
