Samantha Sprackling, better known by the stage name Saffron, is the lead singer of the electronica band Republica.

Biography (1988)[]
Samantha Marie Sprackling was born on June 3, 1968 in Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa, and started ballet lessons at the age of four. Later she trained at the Bush Davies School with a solid classical training then ventured into other forms of dance, drama, singing and music gaining her Associateship in Drama. Shows to her credit include pantomime and cabaret such as the lead in Godspell and more recently she played a main dancer in the production of the contemporary ballet The Rites of Spring by Stravinsky, choreographed by Linda Crockett at the Adeline Genee Theatre. In the past year she has choreographed and worked with her own group Limited Company Dance Machine and later Sprackazz and has also worked for TV choreographer Lud Remano in Italy with his group New Dimension. She was voted 'Face of 83' by Practical Photography Magazine and has a portfolio by Lord Litchfield. She is currently the reigning Miss Newhaven and was the Southern finalist for the Miss United Kingdom Competition 1987. Excited by the prospect of the Starlight Express tour, she is looking forward to seeing the Far East again as many of her relations live in that part of the world due to her mother's ancestry which is Portuguese/Chinese.
